I chose die cast on this model because I felt it would compliment the size and weight of the shell and the results were excellent. This drum provides lots of top end and ultimately a clear, cutting sound but with some very distinct character - lots of wood, a nice even overtone that settles beneath a quick decay. More than enough latitude to cover the sound of a much deeper / wider drum without falling apart or sounding like it needs a drum key.
