- Milkwood is my proprietary name for this exceptionally lightweight wood. It is lighter than both Maple and Cherry, thus producing a rich, almost "creamy" sound with none of the harsh nasally tone and tuning difficulties often associated with Maple. Milkwood snare drums are extremely versatile and have a wide tuning latitude that make them the ultimate wood shell work horse. Milkwood is my personal favourite wooden snare drum.
