- If you like woodhoops this 6.5 x 14 Standard Classic Wood hoop Utility is the way to go. I can't rave enough about the sound quality that comes from using this type of woodhoop on a metal shell drum. Fat, rich, crisp and very, very articulate - an nicely EQ'ed tone. Full sensitivity at all points around the head. A wonderful "knocky' rim shot. One of my absolute favourites - the kind of drum that has such a great voice that you sometimes hit it just for the joy of hearing such a full and focused sound - it just begs for a microphone (hold the gate).
