6514 MP 6.5" x 14" Mono-Ply® in high gloss white lacquer

White - fitting that this 6514 Milkwood is the same color as sugar, because that pretty much sums up the sound. The ultra-lightweight shell provides depth and warmth that is unequalled by any other wood shell on the market. The snare beds allow for exceptional control over the snare effect making this THE drum for everything from soft brush jazz to fatback 2/4. Personally, it is my wood shell snare drum of choice.

After a great deal of consideration I have decided to take the dreadful flight to Chicago to attend the Chicago Custom & Vintage Drum Show. I'll be making the trip with my long time travel / trade show pal Paul Mason of Tempus drums. While Dunnett Classic is not officially listed, I will have a number of Stainless, Titanium and Mono-Ply® snare drum on display at the Tempus booth. I'l also be hangin' out at the Ludwig booth to answer any questions about the newly released L2006 - Ludwig's new Titanium Supraphonic - AKA "The Chief" - dedicated to William F. Ludwig II.

Apart from holding my breath for 6 days, Dunnett Classic Drums made an exceptionally strong showing at the 2006 MusikMesse trade show in Frankfurt, Germany. Dunnett Classic wasn't the only one however as industry pals Tempus Drums and Pork Pie Percussion made for an outstanding display at the DrumIt distribution booth. In addition to MusikMesse itself, our contingent travelled on to Koln, Germany for the Koln Drum Center's inaugural Custom Drum Day which was hugely successful. A special thanks to Olly and Dieter at the Koln Drum Center for their warm, wonderful hospitality!

Paiste Faktory Tour

It wasn't all business while I was in Europe! I was on assignment for Classic Drummer magazine for what will undoubtedly be one of the most in-depth reports from the Paiste faktory in Nottwill, Switzerland.

DRUM! magazine Reader's Poll

I'd like to again express my thanks to those of you who voted the Dunnett Classic Titanium DRUM! magazine's snare drum of the year in the 2005 Drummies. DRUM! is once again seeking your input and I would love nothing more than to make it 2 years in a row. Dunnett Classic is eligible in the snare drum of the year category and in the drumming accessory of the year category (for the R Class and R2 snare drum throw off). As well, drumsmith.com - Dunnett Classic's prefered on line drumming community forum is eligible in the drum / percussion web site of the year category.

To vote simply visit www.drummagazine.com or click here to go to the survey. NOTE: The survey asks for your personal info at the end of the first page, however there are 2 pages following (in which the categories mentioned appear) after page 1. Click the submit button to move to the next page. Thanks for your continued support - your vote does not make a difference - it makes a HUGE difference!

Drumsmith.com hunts for a way to help the musicians of NOLA

Every year the members of drumsmith.com celebrate Easter by participating in the Drumsmith.com Easter Egg Hunt. Usually a huge assortment of prizes - including a grand prize of a Dunnett snare drum - are up for grabs. This year however, we decided to do something a little different. In order to raise awareness of the plight of the musicians of New Orleans and the Gulf coast and to help in a meaningful way, the members of drumsmith.com went on a hunt of a different sort and came up BIG. Members who wished to participate were asked to make a donation to either The New Orleans Musicians Clinic (NOMC) or the Tipitina's foundation, both of which are performing some wonderful services for the musicians of the Gulf who have been hit hard by hurricane Katrina. A random draw was made from the list of those who made donations of $20 or more for a stunning one-of-a-kind 5514 Dunnett Classic Titanium in Pink Marine Pearl autographed by Stanton Moore. The hunt was a success! A substantial amount of both $ and awareness was raised.

If you wish to make a donation to either of these organizations you can do so by visiting their websites using the links below!

The new R2 Rapid snare removal throw off

Another concept that was more than 5 years in the making, the R2 was a very well kept secret. This simple and elegant patent pending design allows the removal of the snare wires without the need of a drum key or tool - a time saver when you really need it. The R2 will be standard equipment on all Dunnett Classic snare drums as of 5/06. In addition current owners of Dunnett snare drums can easily retrofit the quick release components to their existing R Class throw off.

In my ipod

I received this fantastic CD from Ronald Edward Roesing who is 1/2 of the Suns of Neptune. It's a notable 4 tune EP not only for the excellent performances and music, but also for the man who engineered, recorded and mastered it - none other than Eddie Kramer. You can order a copt at www.sunsofneptune.com.
