Happy
Anniversary

Canada & U.S.A.!

Dunnett Classic is almost synonymous with metal snare drums, but I've been putting
a lot of effort into creating some very different wood shells over the past
6 months. It's obvious what makes a metal Dunnett Classic stand apart from other
metal snare drums, but what could one possibly to re-invent the wood shell?
In a word: sculpting. I have been doing a great deal of prototyping MonoPly®
shells that have "shaped" reinforcement rings that substantially reduce
the weight of the shell giving the drum more tonal depth and range, something
I will be discussing in depth in the coming months (another reason to add a
bookmark now!). This is a 7" x 14" MonoPly® Cocobolo finished
in high gloss lacquer. It features die cast hoops, R Class all-metal die cast
throw off and of course, Hypervent I.

Lissa Wales Fund

Lissa Wales is far more than an outstanding photographer who has
dedicated her entire career to the drumming industry. She is also a kind soul
who never hesitated to help others, and a dear friend to many of us. For the
past two years she has fiercely battled acute myelogenous leukemia, which the
deadliest form of that particular cancer, and now finds herself on the verge
of a crucial bone marrow transplant. Lissa will spend months in the hospital
and expects her recovery to take practically a year. In the meantime, she is
unable to work. As a freelance photographer, Lissa has lived off of revenue
generated from photo assignments – which have been replaced in recent months
by doctor visits and long hospital stays. While her insurance covers the better
part of her mounting medical bills, she faces other expenses that she simply
can't pay. That’s why we created the Lissa Wales Fund, so that Lissa can
concentrate all of her energy on recovery without worrying about paying bills.
We have donated $1,000 to season the pot, and invite you to contribute whatever
you can at this pivotal moment. Whether you can spare $20 or $20,000, we ask
that you respond as quickly as possible. Make checks payable to Lissa Wales
Fund, and send them to DRUM! Magazine, 395 East Taylor St., Suite 215, San Jose,
CA 95112 – Attn: Connie Hood. Wire transfer funds to Wells Fargo Account
#7140221818, account name "Enter Music Publishing Inc. Lissa Wales Fund,"
ABA routing number 121-000-248. Those who know Lissa have been touched by her
humanity. But even those that never met her have been touched by her artistry.
Take it from us – we've never known anybody who deserves help more than
Lissa does right now.

Dunnett Classic R Class throw off UPDATE!

Dunnett Classic owners looking for news regarding upgrades please
stand by...

Delta, BC. - After almost 5 years in the making Dunnett Classic drums is pleased
to announce the official release of the R Class snare throw-off. According to
designer Ronn Dunnett, the R class throw-off sets a new standard for reliability,
simplicity and advanced ergonomics. The throw- off features a release lever
that can be rotated 180 degrees relative to the drum shell. This allows the
drummer to position the lever for easy access regardless of the position of
the drum. A friction tension system prevents the lever from movements caused
by vibrations. “It’s a very simple and effective design. It’s
quiet, smooth and very solid - I guarantee no one will be breaking any
of these.”.

The R Class throw-off features a unique mounting channel which allows it to
be retrofit to any drum with a vertical hole pattern of 1.75” or less (including
plastic and aluminum strainer models). The R Class throw-off also features all-metal
die-cast construction for maximum durability and is currently available in chrome.
Black chrome and brass finishes will be available later this year. Registered
owners of 2005 Dunnett Classic snare drums are eligible for a no charge upgrade
to the R Class throw-off. Registered owners of 2004 and earlier models can upgrade
to the R Class for nominal charge. World-wide retail distribution has been
assigned to Kaman
. Drum manufacturers and OEM’s can purchase the R
Class throw-off directly from Dunnett.

The New Pornographers - Twin Cinemas

This is a release that has been greatly anticipated and it's due out any day
now. I had the opportunity to hear a few tracks in advance of the release date
and all I can say is 'Yep - this is porn alright!'. Kurt Dahle used a Dunnett-made
prototype stainless steel kit - AKA the Bonham anniversary kit. All wide open
with some very ingenious micing techniques to get drums sounds that you really
have to hear to believe. I can't say enuogh about this band, their drummer or
this album - just go and buy it!

April 2005

So...you were wondering why there was no more drum of the month.
I had to put things on hold while I was preparing for NAMM and also working
on giving the web site a major overhaul. Special thanks to Ben Hulse for doing
such a great job with it. Like anything in this business, true wisdom is knowing
who can help you and when they should help you.The changes will be on going
and I'll be updating and adding more drums and more content every month ...
and of course getting back to publishing the Drum of the Month ... speaking
of which ...

This is a little project drum that I originally built for myself. I had brought
back a few nice boards of Koa and Wenge from my last trip to Hawaii. Like most
drummers, I have a dream drum and it has always been a thin shell 6.5 or 7 x
14 MonoPly® Koa. I wasn't able to get a 6.5 or a 7 out of those boards.
A 5.5 x 14 was as close as I could get. It became obvious how to achieve the
additional depth. The top and bottom sections are made from stainless steel which
were pressed onto the shell which was machined to fit them perfectly. The sound
is one that I have fallen in love with. It plays stiff like a heavy drum, but
because of the construction and the very light weight of the stainless rings
it overcomes all of the limitations of similar designs which are much, much
heavier. For now I am not offering Kore™ series drums as a regular item
I haven't made a decision on making the Kore™ drums a regular offering...I'm
taking a "wait & see" approach right now. By the way, I this drum
also has an absolutely stunning Wenge half-sister.

2005 NAMM Show

The 2005 Winter NAMM show was a huge success for Dunnett Classic and
has set the stage for some very important announcements this year. Sorry to
be such a trease but I just can't jinx it right now. Anyway, you can view the
drumsmith.com at www.dunnett.com/namm2005.html. - Enjoy!

Gear and Loathing in Frankfurt

Dunnett Classic Drums made their European debut in April at Music Messe
in Frankfurt Germany. Messe is an enormous international trade show and again,
DCD did exceptionally well and commitments to some of the projects that were
born at NAMM were finalized. Again, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves
- you'll find the drumsmith.com Music Messe at www.dunnett.com/messe2005.html.
- Again, enjoy!

Are we there yet?

No. But we are very, very close.

After 6 years of getting screwed around I am expecting the first full production
run of the new R Class die cast swivel throw off in early June.I'll be popping
a few bottles of bubbly THAT day I'll tell ya. What you don;t see in the picture
are some patent pending features that make this already functional throw off
even more functional. Stay tuned...it's going to get even better!

Registered Dunnett owners with 2005 model year drums are eligible
for a free upgrade if your drum did not come fitted with an R Class throw off.
Pre-2005 model year owners are eligible to upgrade for a nominal charge TBA.
I also plan to offer the R Class to a select group of OEM manufacturers (I am
acceptinfg dealer inquiries now). Please bookmark dunnett.com and check for
further announcements and details in June.If you are not an OEM or you do not
own a Dunnett Classic Drum - not to worry - I have secured international distribution
and the R Class throw off will be available through your local drum shop this
fall.

DMB - Stand Up

The album is 2 weeks away from release but I can almost hear it already, (not
to mention the summer tour that will again bring DMB to the Gorge my favourite
venue). My understanding is that Carter switched things up a bit for this album
and ended up using Henry's (CB's tech and proud daddy to some new twins!) 5.5
x 14 Classic Titanium.Anyway, it's not quite in the pod yet, but close enough
to make it this month.

2005 NAMM Show

The 2005 Winter NAMM show was
a huge success for Dunnett Classic and has set the stage for some very important
announcements this year. Sorry to be such a trease but I just can't jinx it
right now. Anyway, you can view the drumsmith.com at www.dunnett.com/namm2005.html.
- Enjoy!

Gear and Loathing in Frankfurt

Dunnett Classic
Drums made their European debut in April at Music Messe in Frankfurt Germany.
Messe is an enormous international trade show and again, DCD did exceptionally
well and commitments to some of the projects that were born at NAMM were finalized.
Again, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves - you'll find the drumsmith.com
Music Messe at www.dunnett.com/messe2005.html.

I had brought back a few nice boards of Koa and Wenge from my last trip to Hawaii.
Like most drummers, I have a dream drum and it has always been a thin shell
6.5 or 7 x 14 MonoPly® Koa. I wasn't able to get a 6.5 or a 7 out of those
boards. A 5.5 x 14 was as close as I could get. It became obvious how to achieve
the additional depth. The top and bottom sections are made from stainless steel
which were pressed onto the shell which was machined to fit them perfectly.
The sound is one that I have fallen in love with. It plays stiff like a heavy
drum, but because of the construction and the very light weight of the stainless
rings it overcomes all of the limitations of similar designs which are much,
much heavier. For now I am not offering Kore™ series drums as a regular
item I haven't made a decision on making the Kore™ drums a regular offering...I'm
taking a "wait & see" approach right now. y the way, I this drum
also has an absolutely stunning Webge half-sister.

and ended up using Henry's (CB's tech and proud daddy to some new twins!) 5.5
x 14 Classic Titanium.Anyway, it's not quite in the pod yet, but close enough
to make it this month.

Register Your Dunnett Classic!

Even more important now!

I am in the process of garnering data on owners of Dunnett Classic
drums. This information will be used strictly for archival interests, however
it will also be used to assess eligibility should you decide to take advantage
of some component upgrades that will be available in June.

If you own a Classic and would like to have your drum included
please drop me an email and be sure to included your name, your drum's serial
name and the date I completed the drum (info that's likely on the inside of
your drum). Once I have enough data I will post a registry page.

I had brought back a few nice boards of Koa and Wenge from my last trip to Hawaii.
Like most drummers, I have a drem drum and it has always been a thin shell 6.5
or 7 x 14 MonoPly® Koa.
It plays stiff like a heavy drum, but
because ofthe construction the very light weight of the stainless rings it overcomes
all of the limitations of similar designs which are much, much heavier. For
now I am not offering Kore™ series drums as a regular item I haven't made
a decision on making the Kore™ drums a regular offering...I'm taking a
"wait & see" approach right now. y the way, I this drum also has
an absolutely stunning Webge half-sister.

2005 NAMM Show

The 2005 Winter NAMM show was a huge success for Dunnett Classic
and has set the stage for some very important announcements this year. Sorry
to be such a trease but I just can't jinx it right now. Anyway, you can view
the drumsmith.com pictorial by clicking on the image. - Enjoy!

Gear and Loathing in Frankfurt

Dunnett Classic Drums made their European debut in April at
Music Messe in Frankfurt Germany. Messe is an enormous international trade show
and again, DCD did exceptionally well and commitments to some of the projects
that were born at NAMM were finalized. Again, I'll let the pictures speak for
themselves - you'll find the drumsmith.com Music Messe pictorial by clicking
on the image. - Again, enjoy!

Are we there yet?

No. But we are very, very close. After 6 years of getting screwed
around I am expecting the first full production run of the new R Class die cast
swivel throw off in early June.I'll be popping a few bottles of bubbly THAT
day I'll tell ya. What you don;t see in the picture are some patent pending
features that make this already functional throw off even more functional. Stay
tuned...it's going to get even better!

Please bookmark dunnett.com and check for
further announcements and details in June.If you are not an OEM or you do not
own a Dunnett Classic Drum - not to worry - I have secured international distribution
and the R Class throw off will be available through your local drum shop this
fall.
