a drumsmith.com pictorial

In addition to bringing you images of most of the new drumming gear for 2006, I have also made an attempt to take your beyond pictures drums. NAMM is more than just new gear. It's an experience.

Once a year we all meet at the fence - we talk, we listen, we exchange (or steal!) info and ideas. We get inspired and we witness inspiration. We meet old friends. Sometimes we make new ones - and then sometimes we don't. We eat and we drink and we celebrate. We revel in the energy.

And somewhere in all of this sound and fury we come to accept and understand that the business of musical instruments is as much and art form as the music these very instruments are used to create.

Above all we try to survive it.

I tried - and perhaps I succeeded - in trying to capture a few of those moments.

Enjoy!

The Anaheim Trade & Convention Center - a view you seldom see.

The convention center as most see it in the AM.

Aquarian's Chris Brady - the other Chris Brady, will be happy to take those sticks from you.

Axis percussion teaming up with Bauer drums.

Cool stuff from Big Bang distribution who managed a move to a larger booth this year. Big Bang distributes Protection Racket bags, S-hoops, Drum Dial and Ahead drum sticks.

Big Bang got the big idea to make their own hot rod snare drum using parts from manufacturers they distribute.

The Advantage snare drum features S - hoops, Fat Cat snare wires and the Dunnett R Class throw off. At $400 it was very popular.

Blues Clues. Big Bang brought along a new series of pedals and hardware - big dog.

Not everyone hears it, but I did. Bosphorous brought a BIG piece of the vault with them this year.

No dogs here. Don't take my word for it....click on the image to hear a sound clip!

The Stanton Moore signature line is still going strong.

Brady. No one is ever disappointed here.

This was one of my favourite kits at the show. Brady also introduced some unusual finishes and colour combinations in their snare drum line and are now offering the all-metal Dunnett R Class throw off as an option.

Phil Specter eat you your heart out. The Brady wall of sound.

And at last - the little plastic man has been replaced by this hip metal version. Don't you think everything on a drum should be metal?

Not many have really had the opportunity to see or play Cadeson, but every year the look of these drums continues to improve. I very hiogh quality import, this wood hoop kit features intricate watercolours done by hand.

The Cadeson finish tree.
